Grief, Loss & Life Transitions

When Everything Feels Like It’s Changing

Life does not always change in the ways we expect.

Sometimes change comes through choice: a new relationship, becoming a parent, moving home, changing career, or deciding to leave something behind. At other times, change arrives suddenly through grief, illness, betrayal, separation, burnout, loss, or circumstances we never imagined having to face.

Even when change is necessary or “for the best,” it can still bring sadness, uncertainty, fear, loneliness, or a sense of emotional disorientation. At times, you may feel caught between what was and what comes next, trying to hold everything together while internally feeling overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted.

Transitions can deeply affect our sense of identity, safety, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. It is not uncommon to feel lost, disconnected, emotionally overwhelmed, or unsure of who you are when life no longer looks the way you expected it to.

Grief, Loss & Emotional Transition

Grief is not limited to bereavement alone. We can grieve relationships, versions of ourselves, missed opportunities, changes in health, family shifts, endings, life stages, or futures we once imagined.

Loss can bring many emotions, including sadness, anger, guilt, numbness, fear, relief, confusion, or emotional exhaustion. Often, these feelings can exist together at the same time.

For some people, transitions may also bring up older emotional wounds, attachment difficulties, or past experiences that had previously felt buried or manageable.

Therapy can offer a space to slow things down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and begin processing these emotions with compassion rather than pressure or judgement.

Common Experiences During Life Transitions

You may recognise some of the following experiences:

  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or lost

  • Grief following bereavement, separation, or major life change

  • Difficulty adjusting to a new stage of life

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or others

  • Anxiety about the future or uncertainty

  • Loss of identity or direction

  • Emotional exhaustion or burnout

  • Loneliness or isolation

  • Feeling emotionally “stuck” between the past and the future

  • Difficulty processing endings or letting go

How Therapy May Help

At Live Life Happy Therapy, therapy offers a supportive and non-judgemental space to explore grief, loss, endings, and emotional transitions at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

Together, therapy may help you to:

  • Process grief, loss, or emotional pain more compassionately

  • Explore the emotional impact of major life changes or endings

  • Reconnect with your sense of self during periods of uncertainty

  • Understand emotional or relational patterns that may emerge during times of change

  • Develop healthier ways of coping with overwhelm, fear, or emotional shutdown

  • Create space for both grief and growth to exist together

Finding Your Way Forward

Periods of transition can feel deeply unsettling, particularly when life no longer feels familiar or emotionally safe. Yet even within difficult endings, there can also be space for reflection, healing, reconnection, and change.

Therapy offers a space to pause, feel supported, and gently begin finding your footing again without needing to have everything figured out.

Support is tailored to your individual experiences and offered with compassion, curiosity, and care.
